The Colony was one of the first hotels to be constructed by Henry Hohauser, the Art Deco district’s most famous and influential architect, back in 1936. The Hotel has been renovated and remodeled extensively since then but without compromising the integrity of the original building which is included in the National Register of Historic Places. The original pipe railings, the concrete overhangs, and the now world renowned blue neon sign of the Colony Hotel are a present day reminder of the original streetscape which made up the Art Deco district of the 1930’s.
