There are a number of places and attractions in Dublin that you can visit without having to pay an admission fee. There are many state run buildings, attractions, museums and so on that you can visit for free.

If you are planning a visit to Dublin why not try the following worthwhile free places to visit in Dublin. There are currently no admission fees.

The National gallery of Ireland.

The National Gallery of Ireland contains the national collection of Irish art and European master paintings. The art collection ranges from the fourteenth to the twentieth century and at this gallery you can see many major Continental Schools. Admission to the permanent collection (main areas) is free of charge.

The National Museum of Ireland has three Dublin based museum locations:

The National Archaeology and History Museum
This is the national repository for archaeological objects discovered in Ireland. The museum contains well over 2,000,000 artefacts with a dates ranging between 7000BC and the late medieval period.

Decorative Arts & History Museum
This museum is home to a vast collection of historical items including, Irish weaponry, furniture, silver items, ceramics and glassware and examples of costumes and clothing.

How to get to the National Museum of Ireland - Decorative Arts and history:

By Dublin bus (state bus service) - numbers 90 (Aston Quay) 25, 25A, 66 and 67 from Wellington Quay (close to city centre)

Luas (Light Rail service): The LUAS Red line travels from Connolly Station to Tallaght and there is a a stop beside the National Museum of Ireland –Decorative Arts & History. This stop is called “Museum”. Trams operate around every ten minutes. Please visit www.luas.ie. for more information on LUAS services.

The Natural History museum
The natural history museum in Dublin houses displays over ten thousand preserved animals. The collections have been gathered for over two centuries. This zoological museum houses outstanding examples of wildlife from Ireland and from around the world, including examples of some extinct breeds.

National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin, Dublin
Often overlooked by visitors to Dublin the Botanic Gardens offers visitors free admission to this beautiful and colourful location. The gardens cover cover a total area of almost 20 hectares. This gardens are beautiful and well worth a visit

The Botanic gardens are located in Glasnevin, about 3 miles from Dublin City.

The entire gardens contains over 20,000 plant species and there are impressive glasshouses which contain many unusual plants. The entire attraction is beautifully maintained and a visit is highly recommended. There is also a restaurant that sells snacks, light refreshments and meals on the graounds of the gardens

There is limited parking available for a flat fee of € 2.(correct as of Jan 2009)
